England vs Netherlands Semi Final, UEFA EURO 2024 Highlights: Under Gareth Southgate, England will play their second straight Euros final.
England produced a dramatic win from going down behind from 1-0 and scored a late goal from substitute Ollie Watkins who helped England through to the Euro 2024 final after a 2-1 win against Netherlands in the second semi-final in Dortmund on Wednesday. Netherland midfielder Xavi Simons had given them an early lead through thunderous strike from outside the box.
Netherlands advantage did not last long as England were awarded penalty in the first half and their captain Harry Kane converted it nicely to make score 1-1.
Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins scored the winner in the 90th minute as late drama unfolded in Dortmund sending England to the finals where they will clash with Spain on Sunday.
The Dutch started the tournament with lackluster display in their group stages with a goalless draw to France and a 2-3 defeat to Austria, they have bounced back in the knockouts. After trouncing Romania 3-0 in the Round of 16, Netherlands made a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Turkey in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, England have scraped through with similar wins in the knockouts and the England manager Gareth Southgate is not complaining about their watchful style of play. England held their nerve to deny Switzerland in the penalty-shootouts in the quarterfinals, netting all five shots as Jordan Pickford’s heroics ensured a 5-3 win. While the Dutch have not made a final since their 1988 Euros win, England will be hoping to get closer to the elusive title once again.
England has never won the European championship, finishing runner-up in the last edition of the tournament, will try to amend the mistake they did last time against Italy by winning the trophy against Spain this time around.
