Spain secured a fourth major title

Spain secured a 4th major title at Euro 2024

Spain secured a record fourth European Championship title on Sunday after Mikel Oyarzabal’s 87th minute goal clinched a 2-1 victory over England, extending England decades-long wait for a major trophy.

Oyarzabal slid in to poke home Marc Cucurella’s cross, just when the game at Berlin’s Olympiastodion seemed destined for extra time after another resilient performance by England at the tournament.

Subs Cole Palmar equalized for England in the 73rd minute to cancel out Nico William’s opener in the 47th minute, following a pass from 17 year old prodigy Lamine Yamal.

Spain also won the title in 1964, 2008, and 2012. England’s men’s team has now lost back-to-back Euro finals and remains without a major title since winning the 1966 World Cup.

It was yet another agonizing final loss for England who are unable to break the jinx of a major tournament and have not won any major title since winning the 1966 World Cup.

England’s King Charles put out a heartfelt message for the side after they lost the final of the tournament and asked them to hold their heads high. The Royal Family conveyed their message via Twitter right after the game and congratulated Spain on their success.

Lamine Yamal has been adjudged as the best young player of the tournament ahead of Kobbie Mainoo, Arda Guller and Xavi Simmons.

While Man City midfielder Rodri has been named as the player of the tournament.
